We got a late start to the show, so it was no surprise when we hit major traffic trying to get to the venue. It's 15 minutes to 8:00, and I'm trying to keep calm. We finally make it to the venue right around 8:00, but the parking lot is nearly full. I drive to the back area and locate some empty spaces. We race through the parking lot, down to the entry doors. The lines to get in are not too long and I don't hear any music yet; things are looking good. As I cross through the metal detector, security asks me step aside: 'Sir, you set off the metal detector.' I grab my phone and keys from the dish and move aside. Swipe, buzz, swipe, buzz - 'Sir, please empty your pockets.' I hand my phone to my wife and reach down into my pockets; grabbing the assortment of hard candies and my ear plugs. When I opened my hands, security sees that I am still holding my keys - 'Oh, you still had keys in your pocket, go ahead.' As fate would have it, we walk into the venue and are right next to the section were our seats are located. I head straight to me seat as the lights go down... I pull the mic and recorder out just as I get to my row ... click - in goes the mic, push - on comes the power, push - stand-by mode, push - recording: Good evening ladies and gentlemen, Welcome to THE WALL. In all the excitement and activity, I did not notice that I was not wearing my ear plugs. No worries, because the sounds levels were absolutely perfect. This was the first time in 10 (maybe 15) years or more that no ear plugs were required. It was so nice to take in the full unadulterated auditory experience while it was happening.
