Recorded at the Royal Albert Hall, London, UK. Great audience recording (slightly better sounding than the other transfers). From the info file: Pink Floyd Royal Albert Hall, London, UK 1969-06-26 RT-707 Playback 80'23' Bernard White will be remembered by many as 'the first Syd fan'. It was Bernard who was instrumental in setting up the first Syd Barrett fanzine, 'Terrapin', in the early 70's. Bernard had been part of the scene for years, and collected a good deal of unofficial and unreleased material well before these things started to circulate on bootleg vinyl or CD (bootlegs which ironically were often sourced from nth gen tapes of copies he'd done for friends he'd met over the years). His collection mainly focussed on Syd, solo and with the Floyd. This particular recording however is from one of his few non-Syd items, a 2nd Gen Reel of the Royal Albert Hall 26th July 1969 show. It is highly likely that this tape was the source of the '1st Gen With Encore' transfer. That came either from this tape, before it came into our possession, or from a copy of it. There are artefacts on '1st Gen With Encore' that are unique to this tape, such as the drop-out 4 minutes into 'Set The Controls' which can be heard on the second of the 'Set The Controls' featured on this tape, but not on the first. Quality-wise this is a slight upgrade to the circulating '1st Gen' Cassette. This transfer has a slightly clearer top end, and does not distort as the '1st Gen With Encore' occasionally does. A sample of '1st Gen With Encore' is included, along with a sample of this transfer from the same part of the tape, to allow a comparison to be made. Listen to the first 30 seconds or so each and you will see how this recording stacks up against the best of the currently circulating copies. The tape features the show as a 1/4' single mono track spit over 2 sides of a BASF 'Low Noise High Output' 5 inch reel. 'Set The Controls' is featured twice. The first occurrence is missing Roger's spoken intro to the track, and cuts after about 8 minutes. The second occurrence includes Roger's intro, but has two patches about 3 or so minutes in where there is bleed-through from adjacent tracks, and a moment or so where the signal disappears about 4 minutes in. This second recording is however complete. Both versions, suffixed 'a' and 'b' are included here. Also included is a version which assembles the best of the two parts into one, to make a single complete track, with Roger's intro, but minus the glitches during the first part of the full copy. = Master > Reel > BASF Reel (Single Track Mono, 3 3/4 IPS) Transfer: Pioneer RT-707 Reel-to-Reel > Tascam HD-P2 > Broadcast WAV (24/48) > FLAC 8 Peak 5.02 used to split into tracks, and trim leading and trailing silences.
