Recorded at the Empire Pool, Wembley, London, UK. Very good audience recording. From the info file: Pink Floyd 1977-03-18 Empire Pool, Wembley, Recorder 1, unknown gen (24bit/96kHz) Pink Floyd Empire Pool, Wembley, London, England 18 March 1977 Lineage: Unknown gen cassettes (Maxell XLII) > *Technics RS-B965-M > Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 > Audacity 2.0.3 > FLAC (24bit/96kHz) xACT used to create FFP *The Technics RS-B965-M is a modified deck - for details see the Tapeheads.net forum 01 Sheep 02 Pigs On The Wing (Part 1) 03 Dogs 04 Pigs On The Wing (Part 2) 05 Pigs (Three Different Ones) 06 Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5) 07 Welcome To The Machine 08 Have A Cigar 09 Wish You Were Here 10 Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 6-9) Encore: 10 Us And Them Running time: 1 hours 47 mins 24 secs A nice mono audience recording, this transfer required some adjustments to the recording levels in the analogue domain and a speed correction but other than that it is raw. For more details see below. Little is known about the recorders from this year. The well known London tapers who recorded in the first half of the 1970s seemingly didn't record in 1977 and, as a consequence of this, it would seem that cassettes are commonly of unknown generation. I consulted lordsnooty and he believes that the taper was probably Brian S. Us And Them from Dortmund is often added to this recorder to complete the concert but Kbrubaker's copy appears to be genuine. The left channel is significantly stronger on all three sides of Kbrubaker's tapes. Dropping the quieter and muffled right channel instantly brought the recording to life. In addition to this, four level changes in the analogue domain gently improved output levels, as per the numbers in the list below. These changes follow breaks and reduce the impact of alterations to the recording levels that were made by the taper or somebody somewhere in the lineage. At times Kbrubaker's tapes were recorded very hot, which seems to have been a habit of his source. The cassettes run 5% slow and I speed corrected them in Audacity. I also performed a splice at the start of SOYCD. The taper missed the start of the song and on Kbrubaker's tapes there was a distinct change in the recording volume. This is the only section of the recording that I was not entirely happy with, as another version I have heard is brighter at this point. The better sound quality returns by the beginning of WTTM. The music is spread across the tapes as follows: Side A - (1) Sheep to Pigs On The Wig (Part 2) - ends 32.56.42 Side B - (2) Pigs (Three Different Ones) - ends 48.21.25 (3) Shine On You Crazy Diamond to Have A Cigar - ends 01.14.28.40 Side C - (4) Wish You Were Here and Us & Them - ends 01.47.23.60 I track marked Pigs (Three Different Ones) so it starts at the beginning of Side B because it was slightly cleaner than including the fragment at the end of Side A. I could have also brought the start point for WYWH forward a little but chose the start of side C. Kbrubaker Cassettes / Neonknight Tape Transfer, September 2013 |
