In the case of the master, I suspect that it is a 1st gen that has not been transferred as well as these tapes. The 4th gen is really nice but there are various points where it is clearly rougher. It also gives away its lineage when you listen out for 'S' sounds. This is a mono recording where both channels contribute, so it was inappropriate to drop either of them. I transferred both tapes at the same level as the hiss can be quite strong and I wanted to ensure it didn't become distracting. Part of The Embryo was included on the tapes at the end of Side A and I removed it in preference for the full version on Side B. It wasn't so easy to remove a repeat of the beginning of Atom Heart Mother, so I left that to Bert13. ** Bert13's mastering notes ** - 94.0 shrink - a few small dropouts fixed (mainly during Cymbaline) - numerous pops cleaned up and bumps smoothed out - a 2 mins 32 secs repeat at the start of AHM removed - tracked with CD Wave 1.96.1 - encoded with Flac Frontend 1.7.1, tagged and verified Neonknight & Bert13 January 2014 |
