Notes: Focus: Thijs Van Leer - Organ, Flute, Vocals Pierre Van de Linden - Drums Bobby Jacobs - Bass Guitar Niels van der Steenhoven - Guitar I finally got around to putting together a matrix mix of my original JB3 audience recording of this show with the SBD that appeared on Dime in December 2010 thanks to marco13. The SBD as posted had been edited to remove a lot of the between-song chat by the band. This matrix reinstates all the missing bits so that you get the full set (though the between-song chat is obviously AUD only, not a matrix mix). The AUD recording was a bit wet (due to the Guildhall's size) and the SBD was a bit to dry (as SBD's can be). This matrix meets both recordings in middle ground and yields (IMO) an excellent sounding show. This is only a short set by the band due to them being top of the bill of the 'Classic Legends Of Rock' tour that also featured The Groundhogs & Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash. For those interested - basic details of the mixing/mastering applied to the original source recordings (using Wavelab6) are as follows: A: SBD/AUD mix to give a balanced 'live' but tight sound B: EQ / Multiband Compression / Limiting (-0.5dB max) C: WAV edited on to 1xCDR plus fade in/out D: track split A note for any finicky audiophiles out there: Mixing & mastering has been done to make the best of the various sources with the aim of enhancing the listening experience. If you prefer virgin recordings, unspoiled by any such amateur 'dabbling' then do not join in on this one. Be warned now ... I don't want any whinging! ;-) But for the rest of you Dime'ers I recommend that you GO FOR THIS ONE ... you won't be disappointed! I score the sound quality as 9 out of 10 ( = A ); but hey! ... don't flame me if you don't agree ... & at least keep it friendly ;-) If you have any comments, whether positive, negative or otherwise, I would love to read them ... don't be a lurker! .....................................................................
