From the info file: Pink Floyd 1969-05-12 Top Gear from the BBC Archive (16bit/44.1kHz) Pink Floyd Top Gear, presented by John Peel, BBC Radio 1 Recorded on 12 May 1969, BBC Paris Cinema, Lower Regent Street, London between 5.30pm and 12.00midnight First transmitted on 14 May 1969 Lineage: Radio 1 Archive 5' spools > Sony Professional MiniDisc > Sony MDS-JE640 MiniDisc deck > Edirol UA-1D > Audacity 1.3 > FLAC > falbrav (see notes below) > FLAC (16bit/44.1kHz) xACT used to create FFP 01 The Beginning 02 Beset By Creatures Of The Deep 03 Daybreak 04 The Narrow Way 05 Nightmare Total running time 19 mins 20 secs Going by accounts in various books, the songs on this MD are in the wrong order but we decided to leave them that way. A nice recording. The MD clearly compresses some very high frequencies but most of the audible range is well balanced. This session was recorded in mono, and as usual one channel was chosen to get rid of phase issues. The right one was slightly louder but the difference in the end was very small, which is always a good sign. A certain amount of 50Hz hum was present in the recording, and not too low. Also higher harmonics were detectable, up to 5th! By chance Derumble (tool brother of Denoise, cousin of ClickRepair) can be set to work up to 5th harmonic, so it was possible to remove all audible noise (we hope). Then it was a matter of removing some occasional clicks and pops, mostly but not only on Daybreak. Finally a small increase of 2dB at 1kHz and 6kHz was done to further improve spectral balance and make the music clearer and a bit more defined. Neonknight / falbrav, April 2015 |
