Wromanus confirmed to me that The Christmas Song is the correct title. Here Comes Santa seems to just be a name made up by collectors.

Both songs resemble one another. In Here Comes Santa the silver bells on Santa's sleigh 'sound so homosexual' and on The Christmas Song they 'sound so gay'.

We know for certain that The Christmas Song was recorded during the Zabriskie Point Sessions thanks to Wromanus and I think it is likely that Here Comes Santa was as well.

The Christmas Song was broadcast by John Peel on his Christmas show in 1975. Track 3 is a rather poor sounding copy on MD with him speaking at the beginning and end. Track 2 sounds much better.

On the John Peel version Rick is on piano and the lead vocals are sung rather nicely by Nick, with Alan Stiles on the 'Merry Christmas guys and a happy New Year' line. Roger can also be heard talking in the background.

On Here Comes Santa Roger and David sing without instruments.

HCS is from my 2nd gen FM recording of KQED 1970-04-30. You may have the full recording of this show which I released with littlepieces. For this version I went back to my raw two channel transfer, removed some crackles using ClickRepair, aligned the channels in iZotope and added some gain in Reaper. I have left a little bit of bird song and a brief silence at the end to aid the transition between tracks one and two.

I got my copy of The Christmas Song in 1994 and have applied the same processes in ClickRepair, iZotope and Reaper.

There didn't seem much point in working on the Peely intro and outro version so it is a straight copy of my MiniDisc. I borrowed the cassette source from a friend in 2000.
