I had been watching Ticketmaster and waiting for the ticket drop. They released floor seats and grabbed a single, dead center. Turns out it was the last row of the section and had security behind me. Right behind the aisle was the soundboard. Getting past the walk through metal detectors and bag check went well but I knew I had to be very careful inside. The vibe in Madison Square Garden is much more uptight now with the added security. Its one of the venues where you can buy water but if you don't bring your own bottle cap you are screwed. I started the recorder early and got settled in my seat. The sound was great and the crowd was into it but not too terrible from a screaming and whistling point of view. Lots of people from other countries including the drunk guy next to me. He can be heard saying 'excuse me' into the mics a few times going to get or bring back beer. I could also hear security right behind me. Between sets I left things running not wanting to draw any attention. Unfortunately that would come back to bite me later. The show was great and as it ended I thought I had nailed the recording. On my way out I looked down and the recorder was off. For some reason the batteries were bad and didn't last. I listened to the first set on the recorder and it sounded really good but the second set file was 0 bytes. I got back to my friend's place and copied the first set off but it wouldn't play in soundforge. At that point it was best to put it away and deal with it after sleep. On the plane I was able to solve the first set. It took awhile recovering the second set and I discovered I got all but the encore. I was disappointed but was due for a failure and only lost the encore. Luckily there are other sources so it is possible to patch the set.
