Andrew Latimer - guitar, flute, vocals Colin Bass - bass, vocals Denis Clement - drums Peter Jones - keyboards, saxophone, vocals boombox's notes september 2018: I had been waiting a long time for the tickets to go on sale for this tour, so when the first dates came out, despite it being a standing show (usually prone to more audience noise) I bought my ticket for The Assembly, being the nearest venue. And then they announced Bath! Still, I am happy to say that the almost sellout audience was pretty well behaved. I can't say any more about the current line-up than what has been said before: Andy is rocking harder than I've seen him, showing no sign of the illness which has plagued him recently, Colin and Denis are as solid as ever and Pete is a really good fit in the band. Yes, at times, he could have perhaps varied his keyboard sounds a little more, but his playing and singing are excellent - I was surprised how many vocal leads he took - and then there was the bonus of the sax too. A pity only Japan got the new songs, but Andy did say something about next time: hopefully there will be another tour soon to promote a new album. As for the recording, a generally respectful crowd and a very good PA mix meant a nice sounding recording was easy to get. Or it should have been. I got jostled by someone pushing past near the beginning of 'Chord Change' and something must have loosened. Most of Moonmadness had intermittent bouts of static throughout. I did the best I could to patch it up by pasting over the left channel from the right. You hear the difference when it goes to mono, but at least it's listenable. Annoying beyond words, as it really is a nice capture. Set 2 is as near to perfect as I think I could have got. I did add a bit of EQ to take some of the boominess out of Denis' floor toms and crisp up the mid-range. If there is anyone out there who fancies a go at fixing Set 1 or indeed anyone wants to use the raw 24bit files in a matrix, let me know. |
