Notes: I would like to start with a few personal 'statistics'. This was my 2nd PT Leipzig gig (after 2005-11-15), already the 7th time seeing and taping PT since 2005-04-21, my 2nd concert of the FoaBP tour (together with 2007-06-30) and the 4th time meeting kabi225 (after 2005-11-14, 2006-09-22 and 2007-06-30). The trip to Leipzig - one of the biggest cities in Eastern Germany - was quite a relaxed one. We arrived early and listened to the soundcheck for a while. As it turned out not to be *that* exciting we decided to explore the city and returned to the park half an hour before the doors were supposed to open. The security guards were already putting up numerous no-audio-and-video-taping-signs (mobile phones with camera function were not allowed either!) on every door, but they seemed to have forgotten the pat down ;). The weather couldn't have been better - it was sunny, not too hot and there was barely any wind - perfect conditions for outdoor taping. Speaking of open air - due to curfew restrictions Pure Reason Revolution already had to start at 7:15. I was standing in the soundboard area for their set but was annoyed by people talking permanently, so I changed my position every now and then. After PRR's performance (which didn't impress me much), I watched out for kabi, who had decided to record about 12 meters in front of the right stacks. This spot turned out to be a good alternative as people around us were mostly pretty quiet (except for some whistling and whoohoo'ing, mainly between the songs) and the sound was good, yet a bit strange. It can't really be described as the 'typical' Porcupine Tree sound with (often) lots of bass and the kick drum high in the mix; it actually was somewhat thin and bright at times. The show itself was - of course - above average, but I have seen much better performances by the band, especially the one in Offenbach a week before. Besides, I think that performing the new album as a whole is the better choice rather than having it scattered throughout the set, like it was the case this evening. Anyway, I was very pleased to finally hear 'Gravity Eyelids' for the very first time live in concert. There was a quite funny moment close to the end of the show when Gavin Harrison fucked up the last drum part on 'Mother And Child Divided” and caught up with the flawless one at the beginning of 'Halo' - to everybody's surprise and amusement on stage. I'm pretty happy with my recording. The sound on it is crisp and very direct with just a few minor flaws, e.g. some slightly tinny and bright sounding cymbals and snares, specifically during 'Sleep Together', but nothing really bad and distracting. Now, as of July 2007, it's time to wait for the next leg of the German FoaBP tour in autumn with pleasant anticipation!
