| Recorded at the Koseinenkin Hall, Osaka, Japan. Very good audience recording. From the info file: Camel 17th January 1978 Koseinenkin Hall, Osaka, Japan The next 4 recordings in my Camel series document the band's first tour to Japan, a country they have included on their tour itineraries ever since. The same band members played as toured Europe in late 1978. There are 5 (6?) known concerts, and I believe there are recordings from every one of them, but I can only present the 3 dates* and 4 recordings I have. If anyone has any of the other dates, and is able to post them, I for one would appreciate it! 1979-01-13: Koseinenkin Hall, Tokyo (possibly a non-existent show) 1979-01-16: Shibuya Koukaido, Tokyo 1979-01-17: Koseinenkin Hall, Osaka (*aud) 1979-01-19: Shikoukaido Hall, Nagoya (*aud) 1979-01-22: Koseinenkin Hall, Tokyo 1979-01-23: Koseinenkin Hall, Tokyo (*aud & radio broadcast) Many Camel tour date lists mention these 6 Japanese shows, however on the Nagoya tape Andy clearly identifies it as only their third concert in Japan. There are three explanations I can think of for this inconsistency; 1. the Nagoya recording is incorrectly labelled. I don't think this is likely, as it would make the 'Nagoya' tape actually Osaka, and lead to the conclusion that the 'Osaka' tape is also mislabelled. 2. Andy can't count beyond two. Unlikely for a musician, especially one excited about visiting Japan for the first time. 3. One of the early Tokyo dates listed is a furphy. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furphy) Considering the risk of pre-booking four Tokyo dates on Camel's very first Japanese tour, I think this is the most likely explanation. It is possible only 2 or 3 were pre-booked, and an extra Tokyo show or two could have been added following a good response to earlier shows, but I think that is unlikely considering the short notice. Also, the Shibuya Koukaido was the venue for the 16th, so a later return to Tokyo at a different venue would make some sense. So I reckon the 13th/Koseinenkin Hall is the dubious date. *** So this is the Osaka concert, an incomplete recording unfortunately, only documenting the last half of the show. This is all I have heard of circulating from this date. It is a mono recording, fairly close and clear, but marred by some high frequency overload distortion. 1. Supertwister 2.
