The sound is consistently warm, dynamic and detailed - basically all you could hope for from an audience recording of a Wall concert from this era. Kbrubaker kindly sent me his cassettes for transferring and sharing with the community. He received them through a trade in 1980. They were not marked as low. We have decided they must be because of their age and sound quality. The music is spread across the 4 TDK SA60 sides as follows: 01 SideA - Introduction -> Mother 02 SideB - Goodbye Blue Sky -> Goodbye Cruel World 03 SideC - Hey You -> The Show Must Go On 04 SideD - The Show Must Go On -> Outside The Wall The left channel on the cassettes is generally weaker than the right and I addressed this using the Saffire's analogue pre-amps. 'Unreal' shouts a guy near the taper, clearly moved by the conclusion to Comfortably Numb. Listening to this you can really appreciate what he meant. ***Littlepieces' Notes*** -Explanation- The reason there is only a 16bit/44kHz corrected version and no 24bit/96kHz corrected version is due to my partitions mysteriously disappearing on two external HDs simultaneouly last July. I had exported the 1644 version and sent it to Neon just prior to the HDs failing, but had not sent the 2496 version. I was able to restore the partition on the less important drive but not the drive with all my work. I lost a lot of other work as well. *So this 24bit/96kHz version is raw and unchanged except for tracking while the 16bit/44kHz version has been 'adjusted'. -Notes- A very nice stereo recording with a warm and powerful low end and very smooth signal quality. It is slightly subdued in the upper half but if you add ~2dB between ~1kHz and ~8kHz in your player or head unit it opens up nicely. I noticed that even though the sections at the end of SideA and beginning of SideB are repeated when they were copied from the source, SideB's left channel was much lower than the right for 10-15s before the level returned to normal. Given this is the same source tape, seems like a person must have changed the levels on the left channel after he flipped the tape before eventually correcting the level. Also, the SQ between SideA and SideB is slightly different. Given KBs tapes are the same type, it seems possibly two different type tapes were used in a past dub. It's apparent when moving from one to the other that the high end output isn't quite as high and doesn't extend quite as far. The signal quality of SideB is still very strong and smooth, its just an obvious change like a HQ metal vs normal bias tape. Mother has some unusual and very loud artifacts from 20:49-21:25 (36s). The first half of this section sounds more like mic connect problems but the second half of this section sounds like changes between settings. If they are changes between settings, then this may indicate a dubbing issue not an issue at the venue. Another interesting artifact is that until 19:12m there is a very high carrier signal at ~15.8 khZ, about 30dB above the content signal. Carrier signals are rarely this high. When it disappears at 19:12m, you can hear a subtle change with the SQ becoming slightly more open or uncovered. **Notes On Recorder** Based on the announcement and reference to Jones beach and being too cold as well as the couple of guitar tunings during the announcements this appears to be the 26th. Based on the audience artifacts during the intro and before and during the beginning of ITF and the lack of recording/mic disturbances during Mother on the other 2 recorders among other things, this appears to be a new recorder for the 26th.
