Recorded from Breakthrough, BBC Radio, London. Very good SQ. From the info file: Pink Floyd, Breakthrough, BBC Radio London 1974 & 1975 (16bit/44kHz) Pink Floyd Breakthrough, BBC Radio London 1974 & 1975 Lineage: Cassette (unknown) > Mini Disc (0) > Edirol UA-1D > Audacity 1.3 > FLAC (16bit/44kHz) xACT used to create FFP Total running time 36 mins 33 secs A straight transfer of my mini disc copy of these really interesting Pink Floyd related recordings from BBC Radio London's Friday evening rock programme Breakthrough. I believe the show was presented by Mike Sparrow. I checked with my source and he is unsure of the lineage of his cassette. It was thrown away about 10 years ago as he saw no reason to keep it having copied it to MD. If you wish to divide the two programmes the break is at 22 mins 42 secs. The recordings came to me undated. In programme one, references to the recent release of the double LP Barrett suggest that it is likely to have been broadcast in September 1974. Perhaps Peter Jenner did the interview to promote the UK release of the album - the reference to its catalogue number would suggest this is so. The September date is further evidenced by Jenner saying that he spent four days in the studio with Syd 'a few weeks ago'. Peter tries to put a positive spin on the sessions but acknowledges Syd had become isolated and lonely. References to the Syd Barrett Appreciation Society in the interview and Peter Jenner's evidently clear awareness of its existence, give some pretty strong clues to how people in the collecting community and Syd's associates were linked together back then. Listen out for particularly interesting references to Jenny Lacey, Top of the Pops, the places Syd lived, the aborted 1967 BBC session and Peter Jenner's reasons for standing by Syd after his split with the band. The second programme contains the radio premieres of the single versions of Scream Thy Last Scream and Vegetable Man. The show is known to have been broadcast in 1975 and Peter Jenner appears to have left copies with the DJ on his previous visit. Unfortunately STLS has a brief internal cut. Neonknight, June 2012 |
