| Recorded at the MEN Arena, Manchester, UK. Very good audience recording, just a bit bassy. From the info file: Roger Waters MEN Arena Manchester 28-06-2011 Flac 8 Recorded from a very very good position in the Arena and it shows in the quality of the finished article. I am stunned at how this has turned out. Even though I've done the recording I couldn't have asked for anything better. ROGER WATERS Manchester Evening News Arena Manchester 2011.06.28 Recorded by:paulrammylad Sound Quality: EX Recorded from: Block 104, D1 four rows from front leading to floor seating area. 8 rows in front of mixing desk, and approx 25 to 30 rows from stage, to the left, as I viewed the stage (same side as the fold out hotel room) Cracking view on an aisle seat, unobstructed view to the ceiling mounted PA Stack and stage. Many thanks go to the very generous couple who swapped seats (I should have been in D3) with me. But as I'm suffering with my legs/back, and the guy had a bad neck, it was in everyones best interest to swap. Technical stuff (not my strongest suit) and at this point I'd like to thank the members on here for giving me invaluable advice, especially Radiowaves and nobbs, on how to covertly record a gig of this size, and which recorder to use. Recorded with: Tascam DR-07 digital recorder. Recording input level set on 5, with a gain setting on ther machine set to 'low'. Microphone: Genuine stereo Sony clip on mic. Recording Specs: (A) Unedited 24 bit Wav, 48.0K, in stereo. (NB this version contains 28 mins of pre show audience chatter, plus the whole of the intermission. (This is due to the fact I don't have the software to edit these wav files). I decided to keep the recording device running and record everything, rather than run the risk of being caught by the security. (They were everywhere). Recording Specs: (B) 16 bit stereo wav file 48.0k. (Converted from 24bit with real player convertor > splitting of the tracks done using syntrillium. Editing the wav files also using syntrillium, (only normalisation of wav files without clipping done.) Other than to say literally 5 minutes before leaving home to travel to Manchester with my two sons, I wasn't sure I could make the gig due to starting with a 24hour tummy bug earlier that morning. I'm talking the full works, I'm sure we've all been there, so I won't go into graphic detail. Anyway I filled myself with various medicines, and managed to grab 6 hours or so sleep. Fortunately just before 6pm I'd recovered enough to climb out of my sick bed to go to the show, and boy am I glad I did. We arrived at the venue at approx 7.15pm. My heart was pumping as I got passed the security cordone with my secreted recording equipment. we made our way to our seats, and with members previously saying the show started at 8pm prompt, I waited until the security were looking the other way and set the tascam recorder going at about 7.45pm. Unfortunately the show didn't start until 8.15pm, so theres about 28 minutes of audience chatter. This was my first time recording a show of this size, and with all the security personel constantly swarming around all over the place, can I say, there's a lot of excitement/fear/adrenaline during the whole recording process. Consequently at this point I want to say a big thank you to all those who have or still do record shows. Sneaking equipment into gigs to record the shows we all love, so we can enjoy for years to come. I now know how they all feel/felt. My lad asked me what would I do if I got caught and thrown out. I told him it was worth the risk, and that I'd probably feel better outside in the fresh air. Boy I felt as ill as a dog. The show was stunning, somewhat different to the version I recall way back at Earls Court in 1980. It was also nice to hear a new song just before Mother. Apparently it was premiered in Berlin 16.06.2011, and was dedicated to Jean Charles de Menezes. Roger had good interaction with the crowd, and was clearly enjoying himself, as were the audience. At one point the whole arena started singing 'Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn' followed by 'Bring The Boys Back Home' The images projected onto the Wall, showing the pain and futility of War and famine, with Roger stood transfixed, arms wide open and back to the audience it was such a powerful moment. Also when the film of the young girl was played, and she stood crying out for her father before she ran to hug him on his safe return from war, well I'm not ashamed to say I shed a tear. Mother should I trust the government......NO FCUKING WAY! At the end of the gig I got the impression Roger didn't want to leave the stage. hence the extended 'Outside The Wall'. So what were the down points, not many really. The seats were awfully uncomfortable, and I was pleased to stand up during the intermission and during Run Like Hell. A couple a rows behind me there were some very excitable fans, who every now and then, couldn't resist a good 'Wahoohing'. There was also a guy sat directly behind me, who for no apparent reason would occasionally just scream out Roger or some other inane rubbish. During the interval a guy, who was worse the ware on drink, had thrown a beer over some people on the front row, who naturally complained to the staff. At one point I thought there was going to be a fight with security guys. He was led away but unfortunately reappeared stood next to me for Outside The Wall, and singing some sort of drunken football song (Scottish I think). Apart from that, I think I couldn't have done any better with the recording. It is well known that the acoustics in the MEN Arena leave a lot to be desired. Also I purposely didn't clap, sing or cheer during the performance (this was very hard to do, after all I was primarily there to enjoy the bloody show). The sacrifice was worth it, as I now sit in the comfort of my own home, well on the mend after that 24 hour tummy bug, and I've got to say I'm very very pleased with the results, and I hope you enjoy it to. Finally I would just like to thank all those who have contributed shows on here which I have grabbed over the years. This is the very first time as a member that I can give something back to the Pink Floyd community thats totally unique. If anyone wants to edit/master and repost the 24bit un-edited wav files, then please feel free to do so. I don't have the software to do it myself. Also I feel that this will sound absolutely fantastic with someone who knows what they are doing, giving it tweak here and a tweak there. Please don't convert to MP3 unless for personal use.
