This copy of Mike Millard's legendary recording came to me from a Japanese trading partner on a pair of Maxell DM120 DAT tapes in 2003.

My contact said it was from the master but I understand that Millard's cassettes for this date were never transferred to digital. I believe an 'off master' description was given to the recording at some point leading to some confusion about the lineage. For some traders this meant a direct digital copy from the master and for others it was a way of describing the first step being a 1st gen analogue tape.

Quite a lot has been written about Mike Millard's methods. For those who are not aware he used a wheelchair for a recording prop and taped with a Nakamichi stereo cassette recorder and AKG microphones. Millard used Dolby B and played back with it off to boost the high end and this increased the hiss on many of his masters. 1st generation copies were often marked to see who traded each version of the master.

This is a raw transfer of my DAT. There are tape flips in Any Colour You Like and Have A Cigar.
