WEED ANNOUNCEMENT
WHO WAS TRAINED NOT TO SPIT ON THE FAN?

Montreal, 06 July 1977.

HRV-CDR-023 is now available.

I finished editing this two CDR set two weeks ago. I sent them to Will to begin distribution. But Will seems to be out-of-pocket for awhile. So I'll get this one started by taking one volunteer. Then Will can join the fun when he gets back.

Many of you are already familiar with this show as Azimuth Coordinator #2 and various other names. So let me tell you:

THIS SHOW COMES FROM A DIFFERENT SOURCE

And according to Ron, a better source. For example, AzCo2 has the encore marred by an audience member near the taper repeatedly requesting Dark Side of the Moon. Spit on the Fan's taper had no such chatter box nearby.

And speaking of the audience, the audience is definitely the star of this show. An extremely rambunctious crowd, with lots of whistling, screaming, and fireworks. That's right, explosions from the fans lighting off fireworks.
After one such explosion, Roger stops singing with his infamous, 'Ah for fuck's sake, stop letting off fireworks and shouting and screaming; I'm trying to sing a song!'

At another point, Roger actually spits on fan attempting to improve his vantage point.

I guess being rowdy can sometimes have it's advantages. The Floyd played an extra encore. Hoping to stave off an impending riot, they played a slow blues number to calm everyone down before finishing.

So, Montreal joins Oakland (Animal Instincts) as the only two venues to be treated to three encores during the '77 tour. At opposite ends of the spectrum: in Oakland, an extremely well behaved audience is treated to Careful With That Axe, Eugene. While in Montreal, an angry mob is sedated with an ad-libbed blues piece.

The two CDR set tracks as follows:

Who Was Trained Not to Spit on the Fan? (HRV-CDR-023)

2) 2:09.6 Pigs on the Wing 1
3) 18:45.1 Dogs
4) 4:02.9 Pigs on the Wing 2
5) 19:39.1 Pigs - Three Different Ones
6) 13:44.0 Shine on You Crazy Diamond 1-5 (Second Set Begins)
7) 8:22.9 Welcome to the Machine
-------

5) 10:48.2 Us & Them (Second Encore)
6) 13:33.7 Blues (Third Encore)
-------
72:06.1

As you can see, disc 1 requires an 80min CDR.

Now I talked about the audience being the star of the show, but the band is in top form as well. It's been argued that this version of P3DO is best of the tour. Well, you be the judge.

As is now the custom, distribution will be by the Shorten format. Each weeder promises to make 3 copies for continuing the weed.

Those wishing to start this weed should send me (ed.paule@...) their name and address. I will choose one person at random tomorrow after this message appears in the digest.

Enjoy the Show,
Ed.
