Waters, Roger - Radio City Or Bust (HRV CDR 019) |
Notes |
Recorded at the Radio City Music Hall, New York City, New York, USA. Taken from a radio broadcast. Very good SQ, even though the station used some kind of 'holophonic' effect, which results in quite an annoying echo (imo). Luckily, this effect is not present all the time. From the info file: Roger Waters - Radio City Or Bust Broadcast Live by Westwood One on the 28th of March 1985 - Recorded at Radio City Music Hall, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA Label: HRV CDR019 Audio Source: FM Radio Sound Quality: A (Very slight hiss can be heard if you listen for it) Lineage: (Harvested SHN-files) --> FLAC level 8 --> MWP (see protocol file for conversion details) Artwork: Included Gallery links: http://www.mindwarppavilion.org/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-5133 http://www.mindwarppavilion.org/cpg/displayimage.php?pos=-5138 Number of Discs: 2 Total running time: 137:19 (74:51 / 62:28) Notes: These files were never released in the SHN format by the Harvested group - that conversion was done by others. In the process, somebody changed the track configuration, so that disc 1 contains 14 SHN files and disc 2 16 SHN files. That is, however, not how the tracks were ordered on the original release in audio files format. WE decided to restore the original disc configuration for this Harvested project: the SHN file 'd2t15-radio city or bust.shn' has been moved to the start of disc 1. This restoration means that the file names needed to be changed, too. (If the file names were left unchanged, 'd2t15-radio city or bust' would of course appear last on disc 1, not first as it should be, and that would cause problems for those who would like to burn the disc.) From now on, the file names are '01 - Intro to Ringo', etc. The original track order: http://www.harvested.org/RadioCity.html Oh, and the artwork only lists 14 tracks for disc 1, and 13 or 14 (depending on how you read 'Brain Damage/Eclipse (encore)') for disc 2... Band: Roger Waters - Lead vocals, Bass guitar Jay Stapley - Guitars Andy Fairweather Low - Bass Michael Kamen - Keyboards Andy Newmark - Drums Mel Collins - Saxophone Doreen Chanter, Katie Kassoon - Vocals From http://www.yeeshkul.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-180.html: Harvested's 'Radio City Or Bust' comes from Ron Toon's personal tape he recorded straight from a *LIVE* broadcast on WW1, on March 28, 1985. The WW1 live broadcast was also available on a RoIO called 'Hitchhiking To Radio City'. Some time later, the BBC did a broadcast taken from the 3 concerts in NY Radio City (26-27-28 March 1985). The BBC broadcast is therefore not live, and tracks were carefully compiled from the different nights. The BBC broadcast is incomplete (mainly focused on the Floyd set) and has a cleaner mix than the WW1 live broadcast (audience is mixed lower in the BBC broadcast). This BBC broadcast was available on a RoIO called 'In The Pink'. Of course the BBC6 Music broadcast from 2003 should be an upgrade (at least the NTL cable version). From the BBC broadcast, only Brain Damage and Eclipse are from the March 28 concert. All the other tracks are from March 26 or 27, and therefore are different from the Harvested version. From Wikipedia: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pros_and_Cons_of_Hitch_Hiking) The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking is a concept album by English musician Roger Waters. Some notables assisting Waters during the recording of the album were conductor Michael Kamen, actor Jack Palance, saxophonist David Sanborn and guitarist Eric Clapton. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA in April of 1995. History The album concept is about a man's midlife crisis and how he dreams of committing adultery, amongst other things. The album takes place in real time from 04:30AM to 05:12AM. Its cover prompted controversy for featuring a rear-view nude photograph of the model Linzi Drew. In some regions, the album has been released with this picture censored. In 1978, Waters played demos of this album and The Wall to his band mates, who decided that they liked The Wall better, except their manager Steve O'Rourke who thought that Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking was better. In the end it was decided that The Wall would be a Pink Floyd album and this ended up as Roger Waters solo album.[1] Gerald Scarfe created all the graphics and animation for the album and its supporting tour. Fisher/Park created the stage and props used during the tour. Scarfe had drawn caricatures of all the band members for the tour program, and the caricature of Roger which he named Rog, seemed to have a long snout like a dog. So Gerald created a character of a Dog in the image of Rog and named him Reg. Reg became the main character of the story and stage animation of the Pros and Cons of HitchHiking tour. In 1984, Waters went on tour to promote the album with Eric Clapton, which consisted of almost all sold out shows. The beginning of the concert consisted of Pink Floyd numbers, and the second half they performed the album. Some of the music on the album uses melodies also found in the Pink Floyd songs 'In the Flesh' and 'The Fletcher Memorial Home'. Lyrics from '5:11AM (The Moment of Clarity)' are used in The Wall film, along with lyrics from 'Your Possible Pasts' off of The Final Cut.
