Notes
Recorded at 'Modern Rock Live', CFNY-FM, Toronto, Canada. Very nice interview, great SQ.

From the info file:

Well, I'm finally getting around to digitizing my 700+ cassettes (at my wife's insistence--she wants them out of the house), so I'm going to start posting some goodies here. I taped many a show in the Toronto area from the late '80's to the late '90's, and also recorded a lot of radio broadcasts, mostly from CFNY, 102.1 in Toronto. Hope you stumble across something you like, or even a show you were at!

addendum: I have had many comments about the fate of my tapes, so for those worried about them...the masters I am boxing up and storing in my parents' basement. The others (mixed tapes, recorded LP's, etc) are getting tossed. My wife is not evil or insensitive--we live in a small place, and the many boxes were getting in the way. This is something I'VE wanted to do for awhile, as well. She just gave me the push. Oh, and she doesn't have shelves of makeup, or hundreds of shoes, no matter what stereotypes you care to buy in to. Her comic collection, however....

Kate Bush--Modern Rock Live, radio phone-in interview, Dec. 13, 1993

The day I actually got to see Kate Bush. I was a massive Kate Bush diehard and collector--I had to have everything, every variant cover, every poster, etc. I co-wrote the Kate entry in Hot Wacks. I made it into the thank-you's in the Kate Bush Collector Guide. Kate never tours, however, so actually seeing her is almost impossible, especially in Canada. Until one day, when local station CFNY-FM announces Kate will be in town to premier her new movie, The Line The Cross and the Curve, at the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum)on Dec. 13. Actually, they only announced the location the first time--I think it was an accident. Every announcement after that only mentioned a 'top secret' venue for the premier. They announced the radio interview part much later.
So, on December 13, my girlfriend and I headed for the ROM. We got there early, I can't remember when, and expected a large crowd. Nothing. Nada. We started to wonder if our info was correct. A couple of hours later, some other folks appeared, also hoping to find the Kate event. In the end, I believe there were 7 of us. We hung out front, after a nice security guard assured us the event was happening. A few music folks came and went--Denise Donlon of MuchMusic, Murray McLachlan, someone else I don't recall, but we figured, yep, right place. We were there for hours, being nice, not bothering anyone. The made us leave the foyer and wait in the cold, which we did. Coming up to showtime, one of our little group went in and chatted with the lady who seemed to be in charge from where we were standing. 'C'mon, it's really cold, we've been super nice, we don't want to cause a fuss, there's only 7 of us, can we just come in and see the film please?'. 'How many of you?'. 'Only 7!'......'OK, come in quietly, take a seat near the front, and don't say anything!' Done and done!! We got in moments before Kate took the stage.
It was a very short speech. Kate showed up to rapturous applause, I has happy to see she was real, and she basically said, 'We had a lot of fun making this film, I hope you have as much fun watching it, thanks for coming' and was off. Roll film, after movie, no Kate. I stood in the cold for about 4 hours to see Kate for about 5 minutes. Worth it? Yes!
We drove past the radio station on the way out of town, but there was a huge crowd there, and the windows were all covered over with paper, so we just went home to try our luck with the phone in. We did get through about midway in the program, the operater said, 'good question, hold the line and we'll get back to you', at which point there was a click, and it went dead. Oh well. Good day, though.
I have, of course, removed all the music.
