Total running time: 61m 42s

Notes: The set is the complete recording for John Peel's 'Sunday Concert', recorded in front of a live audience. 'Atom Heart Mother' was played with the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, and the John Aldiss Choir, conducted by John Aldiss. Catch the feedback at 26:17 into the set, right after Roger does his scream for 'CWTAE'. This has not been remastered, as is obvious from several small flaws in the boys' playing.

John Peel, the British broadcaster who died Oct 25, 2004 made a huge impact on bands and music fans during his lengthy career with the BBC. It has always been the duty of DJs and music critics to spot trends and highlight talent that otherwise would be ignored. Peel was never a follower of fashion but always searching for music that spoke a different language from the conventional. Oct 13 is International John Peel Day.

JOHN PEEL: Hello and welcome to this rather special 'Sunday repeated on wednesday' programme, and this is eh, I, and I hope you have been looking forward to for several weeks ever since it was going to happen. We have The Pink Floyd.

The Embryo

JOHN PEEL: Nicest thing about The Pink Floyd's music is that it always makes me at least feel very hopeful, it's optimistic music and that was no excer... excerption. Called 'Embryo' and it's written by Roger Waters. This next one which is written by Dave Gilmour is 'Fat Old Sun'.

Fat Old Sun

JOHN PEEL: Excellent... yeah, it's really beautiful. That's 'Fat Old Sun', a Dave Gilmour composition. Is that going to be on the next LP?, is it?

DAVID: Hmm Hmm.

JOHN PEEL: It is? Great, good. There, eh, next two things are going to... have already been, in fact, recorded and you doubtless have the records already. They are 'Green Is The Colour' and that's going to be followed with 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene'.

Green Is The Colour > Careful With That Axe, Eugene

JOHN PEEL: And that was 'Green Is The Colour' and 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene', and if any there be who don't know who The Pink Floyd are they're eh... Roger Waters, bass and vocals, Nick Mason, percussion, Dave Gilmour, guitars and vocals, and Rick Wright, keyboards and vocals. And this next thing, which, eh, in fact Roger will be playing acoustic guitar on, and Rick is going to play organ and bass simultaneously, so I'm told, which should be well worth watching and hearing. It's called 'If'.

If

JOHN PEEL: That was another Roger Waters' composition, called 'If'. And next week on this programme, we've got rather a lot of people actually. We have Mungo Jerry, Joanne Kelly and Bob Hall, Simon and Steve, and Brett Marvin. And The Thunderbolts. And this programme has been produced by Jeff Griffin, sound balanced by Chris Lycett, and leaping about this week by Bob Conduct. And now, we're going to hear the music that was the highpoint of the recent and much discussed Bath Festival and, eh, it's working title is 'The Atom Heart Mother', and it will appear under some title on the next Pink Floyd LP due in September or thereabouts. And Pink Floyd will be accompanied by The Philips Jones Brass Ensemble, and the John Aldiss Choir, and the arrangements are written by The Floyd in conjuction with Ron Geesin. So, 'The Atom Heart Mother'.
