Comments: It was 6 years ago today. David Gilmour and his band gave a fantastic concert in the wonderful antique theatre in Vienne (France). The site was superb, and the performance was strong and inspired (personnally, I consider the versions of 'On An Island' and 'Fat Old Sun' as the best versions from the 2006 tour). In 2007, Fabien Brun, who filmed large extracts from the concert, released a DVD called 'One Hour With David Gilmour At Vienne'. The quality of this audience shot video is superb, Fabien having immortalised a lot of precious moments with his mini DV camera. But the audio from that mini DV could be improved and I decided to overdub the video with the best audio sources that are available. So this new DVD 'An Extraordinary Night In Vienne' has the same video quality as the original DVD (I just re-arranged the order of the songs to represent the true chronology), but comes with a new lossless LPCM stereo track, that makes the viewing experience a pure delight. For most of the songs, I used the audience recordings from FLG and Xave, from which I produced a matrix called 'Echoes In The Amphitheatre' in 2006. I did some further remastering for this DVD, to improve the original sound quality of the matrix. And for 'This Heaven', 'A Pocketful Of Stones' and most part of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond', I used the professional audio from disc 5 of the 'Live In Gdansk' box set (this bonus disc contains a lot of songs recorded in Vienne, confirming the excellent performance throughout this concert). The beauty of the images combined with the 'almost perfect' sound makes the viewing of this DVD a true pleasure. Watch it on big screen and play it loud !
