Recorded at the Fox Theatre, St. Louis, MO, USA. Very good audience recording. Ontiveros (hops_hopper@yahoo.com) Thanks to Eric A., the VCD version of this show has been around for a few years now, but I felt it was time to make it available as a DVD. The resolution is better but unfortunately, the camera clicks, the shakeyness and out of focus segments are still very much a part of this show. I removed the 'pre-show montage' that is on the vcd, but I left in the 'proposal' segment in the lobby after the show. Anonymous provided some audio to fill in the few seconds of WP and the pre-PTDO gap. Big thanks to EVERYONE sitting close to me that knew I was taping. You all were well behaved. Not too loud, just loud enough. Not obnoxious. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! I was seriously concerned about the audio quality. I am more than pleasantly surprised. Although it is nowhere near what a good audio boot sounds like, it is really not that bad at all. My respect for tapers has increased tremendously! You all are the best. To have to deal with the nerves, the muscle twitches and cramps, the sweat, the paranoia, the worry, the equipment etc. just to bring us these wonderful shows. Thank you! I won't be doing it often but I can also tell you it's a heady trip. All your senses are heightened and on constant alert, you hit a wall about three-fourths through the show where every muscle in your arms is sore from trying to hold the camera really still up to your face. Even though I came away from the show mentally exhausted the whole experience was a super-rush! To this day, I am still so excited I smile from ear to ear. It's not professionally shot by any means. It shakes, it's out of focus, it swings and sways. I know I'll never be a Spielberg but I also know I've seen concert footage worse that this so for having very little practice, I think it turned out ok. R.O. Set List 01. I got a few seconds of the stage shot, fumbled with the record button turning it off, fumbled with it again and turned it back on. I figured it was pre-recorded anyway. ASF-Not bad, shaky, Close up on shots is too shaky. I found out right away that the closer I zoomed in, the harder it was to control the lens movement. What do you do? Pull way back and have a boring show with no close-ups or move in and try to hold your breath? Now that I've watched it, close-ups are too closeup. So much so, they are out of focus. Too much wandering of the camera. I hope people don't get sea-sick watching it. 02 - BLISS : Out of focus. Then back into focus. One mistake I constantly make is trying too hard. I try to get too close and then the camera loses focus. I will be saying this again. 03 - CRUCIFY: So YOU go ahead and try it. Hold a 2 pound instrument up to your eye. Focus. Hold it perfectly still. Little droplets of sweat were already forming on my temples. My arms (biceps) were starting to ache a little from holding that position so tightly. There are some pretty shots of video on this track. 04 - INTRO-IMPROV : Just because Tori feels the need to introduce you to those on stage with her, doesn't mean I should have waved the camera all around trying to find them. Not only did I try to find them, but went wild and crazy and out of focus doing it. 05 - MRS. JESUS : I keep trying to get too close. I keep waving wild. I keep getting tired. Little bunny-knots of mini muscle cramps are starting to form in my upper arms. And those little beads of perspiration ain't 'perspiration' no more. Go ahead and call it sweat. The camera was slowly sinking. By the end of the song, I was filming her feet. 06 - CONCERTINA: A most beautiful song. It was during this song that she struck the pose. One arm to one side on the Bosey, one arm to the other side on the organ. Straddling the bench between both instruments. Chest thrown out, eyes closed and head thrown back. Outta focus fading in, wandering, outta focus pulling out. 07 - YOUR CLOUD: I could kick myself in the ass sometimes. Bad decision to lower the camera and try to use the viewfinder-lcd screen to tape with? By this time I was shaking from trying to focus, hold still and tight, Seemed the tighter I held, the harder I pressed against my eye socket and the faster I got tired. I didn't know it at the time, but by doing so, I was also giving myself a helluva sore neck. I feel so bad that one of the most beautiful songs she did tonight, was one of the ones I messed up the most. 08 - TEAR IN YOUR HAND: One of my favorite songs. She has been doing this one for a long time. I thought I had settled down and just when I thought I was starting to do o.k. I started to swerve wild and shake again. Out of focus zooming in and out. 09 - WEDNESDAY: Shaky Start. Energizing song. Lots of Pep. The screen in the back changed and I got a good shot of it. Probably the best one so far. 10 - LEATHER: She says 'It's just us now' and then starts in with the 'I'm changing my plans' improv. At first she is bathed in blue light but as she continues with the improv, the red lights come on. What a nice way to let her crew know she wants to switch up. Again I'm swinging and swaying. Often right at the wrong time. Again I try to come in way too close. 11 - CLOUD ON MY TONGUE : My arms are tired. I'm sweating by now. My heart is still pounding. Seems all my senses are on high alert. Only thing is, I'm starting to enjoy it. I'm past thinking 'if' I'm going to get caught. Now it's just a matter of 'when' I'm going to get caught. Seems everyone within 20 feet of me knows I'm taping. 12- COOLING: My wife is paying better attention than I thought. She knows I had planned on switching tapes at the end of quiet time and nudges me to offer me the second tape. I say 'not yet!' Cooling gets off to a shaky start, then settles down. Pretty background behind the stage. It ends up a little out of focus as I scramble to... TAPE SWITCH: Super critical time now. Don't be nervous. These next few seconds are going to seem like an eternity..... Be cool. Focus and concentrate. For Pete's sake do not fumble too much or drop either tape! Good. I missed about 30-45 seconds just as planned. Oh well. Nothing you can do about it. Just lucky I didn't lose more than I did. 13 - PUTTING THE DAMAGE ON: (Missing a few moments at the start because of the tape change) Shaky again. Sometime during the song, I clicked the photo button. The video stops for a second or two, but the audio keeps going. I didn't know it at the time, but it wouldn't be the first time I do it. I guess I'm still freaking. I keep trying to get too close. 14 - TAKE TO THE SKY: Stop shaking!! Not too bad overall. 15 - TAXI RIDE: Tori had her back to me most of the song. 16 - HORSES : Again, a bad start. The video starts to get shaky-shaky. Not big shakes, but like trembles. I try to hold as still as possible. It is also quite evident folks know I'm filming. Someone needed to leave. He waited until just right after the song started, and darted across me as fast as he could sort of ducking. Then when he got back he 'blipped' back across. As the song ends, Tori moves her arm and hand across her body and ends with 'perfectly still.' My voice on this recording will forever attest to how beautiful it was. At the time I felt that if people can be drunk, loud and obnoxious and yell 'I love you Tori' during quiet time, I can at least mention how beautiful something was at the end of a song.) 17 - CORNFLAKE GIRL: Nice start. Whew. Ok, got the hang of it finally. Well nope. Trying to pull in too close again and then it gets out of focus. This is so fun it hurts! Cornflake turns out to be the best videotaped song of the show. 18 - I CAN'T SEE NEW YORK: I was trying hard to focus but my arms were going out. I ask your forgiveness. The only good thing I can say is that this song is so beautiful that I don't think it meant itself to be video taped. Severe jerkiness. Just close your eyes and listen to this one and don't pay the video any attention ok? 19 - SPRING HAZE: Not too bad. A nice ending to a nice song to a nice concert. (ENCORE) 20 - SWEET SANGRIA: After Tori sat down, I should have sat still. I tried to pan out over the audience. (what the hell was I thinking again?) I know I'm tired by now. My mind is racing a mile a minute and my arms are shaking even faster. I have so much more respect for tapers today than I did yesterday. I'm glad she played this. I still wanted to hear 'Don't Make Me Come to Vegas' and 'Strange'. (Hell, as cold as it was outside, she could have played 'Winter' too!) 21 - PAST THE MISSION: Not too bad I guess. Shaky end to the song. 22 - GIRL: Starts with the video all over the place. Then I settle down. I definitely think I did a better job on the second half of the show (after Horses) than on the first half. SECOND ENCORE: 23 - PANCAKE: My forefinger hits the photo button again. Well, this time it almost looks like I did it on purpose because it happened while Tori was moving her hand and arm across her body. No loss of audio. 2-3 seconds of streaming video lost. 24 - PLAYBOY MOMMY: Final song of the evening. Tori had her back to me most of the time. Not too shaky. POST SHOW: *My lovely wife had to make a visit to the ladies room. While I was waiting for her in the lobby, a small group of people started to form a semi-circle around one of the Lions that are on each side of the steps. A couple stepped over and he gave her a kiss. Then a couple of cameras came out as he kneeled down. I flipped the video cam back on and caught it just as he popped the question and everybody cheered and then they started smooching. Congratulations! |
